Urriðaholt (e. Urridaholt) is a new hillside community in the town of Garðabær, Iceland. It is a pioneering development in Iceland, which has already received international awards and recognition for its sustainability and quality-of-life approach. A part of this approach is an extensive sustainable urban drainage system that will preserve the local hydrology in Urriðaholt and protect the environmental quality of lake Urriðavatn that is perched below the hill.
The development covers 100 hectares. The urban plan assumes around 1600 residential units,150 thousand square meters of commercial space, a college, a high school and kindergartens. The hilltop itself provides a natural focal point for the development and includes housing, retail units and a museum or cultural centre.
